My Story
My personal yoga journey began after the birth of my first child in 1985. As a first-time working mom, I was searching for personal time and a deeper connection with my body. I began attending yoga classes at a local adult education center. My body became stronger and more relaxed, but it was the quieting of the mind that kept me coming back. I felt like I had arrived home. That deep connection led me to seek out experienced teachers and pursue my teaching certification.
In 1994, I completed a 200-hour certification in Structural Yoga and began teaching. Wanting to expand my understanding of yoga and its healing potential, I explored many different traditions including Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kripalu, and Bikram. Through retreats and continued study, I was introduced to Viniyoga. I immediately recognized its intelligent, non-dogmatic approach as something I could practice and teach for the rest of my life.
I went on to study at the American Viniyoga Institute in Maui, Hawaii, and in 2003 received my diploma from their 500-hour certification program. I continue to deepen my understanding of yoga, anatomy, and therapeutic application through ongoing study and conferences throughout the country.
For over 27 years, I have taught a diverse group of students — heart disease patients, cancer patients, college students, working professionals, and older adults. I continue to be inspired by how intentional breath combined with mindful movement, properly adapted to each individual, can bring relief, resilience, and profound change.
